... Read MoreDear Colleagues,
It is time for our APN students to graduate. Please welcome and support them during their transition from student to novice advanced practice nurse. Do you remember when you were in their shoes? It takes about 2 years of experience for APNs to feel comfortable in their work, and our guidance and freely given support will mean a great deal to them.
Now is also the time to be thinking about returning for your own DNP. Our profession needs leaders in health care during a time of both economic stress and opportunity. If you have ever considered seeking a faculty position, please contact nursing programs in your area as they plan for fall faculty. It is never too late to look!
In this June 2011 issue of AJNP Online, we are pleased to provide an editorial supplement, Motivating Patients to Behavior Change: Tools and Techniques for Patients with Diabetes, by our own Tom Bartol, and a clinical article entitled Emergency Contraception and Conscientious Objection: A Transdisciplinary Overview, by Kathleen A. Ahonen. We present NPWH’s 14th Annual Premier Women’s Healthcare Conference Program Guide (the conference takes place in Austin, Texas, this year), as well as information about and a nomination form for NPWH’s Inspirations in Women’s Health Award.
In her regular column, Issues in Pharmacotherapy, Mary Ann E. Zagaria discusses herpes zoster; in his regular column, Promoting the NP Profession, Tom Bartol talks about absolute risk, relative risk, and clinical significance; and in her brand-new regular column, Nicole Neibaur discusses selected dermatologic manifestations of diabetes mellitus. Finally, this online issue of AJNP provides information about the National Nurse Practitioner Symposium, which will take place at Copper Mountain, Colorado, in mid-July, and it includes press releases from the Nurse Practitioner Healthcare Foundation.
Happy reading!
