From the Editorial Co-Directors

Dear Colleagues,

Autumn is upon us, so it’s back to school for faculty and students, including a new crop of NP students needing clinical support by committed NP preceptors. We thank our preceptor readers in advance for the important role you play in preparing competent new graduates to care for patients. The preceptor role seems more important than ever as we struggle to take care of patients who are greater in number, sicker, older, and equipped with fewer resources than patients we’ve encountered in years past.

The NP community as a whole will be tested to implement the recommendations in the Institute of Medicine report—The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health—to put into the workplace a greater number of nurses who are prepared at higher levels with more clinical and leadership skills than ever before. Our goal as editorial co-directors of The American Journal for Nurse Practitioners is to bring you relevant articles that will make your job easier, regardless of whether you are a clinician, student, or faculty member.
